Finally I have gotten around to updating my portfolio. Check out my page of updated illustrations.

At long last, here is my newly re-designed personal website, which will showcase my web and graphic design as well as my illustrations. The site is still under maintenance, so please don’t mind the missing content and any wonkyness you might come across. Please send me a shout if you notice anything misbehaving, I’d appreciate it.

Pattern design = fun! This is my first real attempt at a tiling pattern. I could see this printed on a fabric. I want to learn screen printing, but here in Costa Rica such courses don’t seem to be available, at least not where I live. *sigh* I miss taking art or crafting courses. But at least yoga classes have started up in my town … and come August a belly dancing teacher will come to give weekly lessons. Sweet! Oh, and finally high speed internet has arrived and I can finally get wireless in my house. Wow, I’m rambling and jumping all over the place. I think it’s time for bed. Enjoy the flowers.

IF: Hats

by renac

This traditional Peruvian hat would boil my little head under the hot Costa Rican sun. However, when I return to Toronto in April I might need it…especially in my parents cold cold house! Brrrrrr!

Today I thought I’d introduce you to my two favorite fluffy friends and constant companions (besides the hubby Pedro, of course), Kitty and Rocky. Kitty will be 13 years old this December and I have had him since he was a wee one. Kitty (the namesake of this blog) accompanied me here to Costa Rica two and a half years ago and has since grown a bit fat and grumpy. It is worth while to check out Kitty’s photo gallery, he’s a very handsome model! Rocky the miniature pincher has been living with Pedro, Kitty and I (oh and also the two cats that live outside of my house; Little Girl and her son Panther) for about a year now. Before that he was living at Pedro’s parents farm where he enjoyed keeping the cows in line and barking and biting everyone who came too close. Thankfully he has calmed down, though he still bites the local drug addicts and drunks who live in my town. Rocky is the first dog I have ever had. I have always been a cat-person and have had various throughout my life (along with a newt, a turtle, a couple of frogs that hopped […]

This is my first attempt at appliqué. My pal Anna (who is quite pregnant) and I have been getting together for some good old fashioned girl gabbing and craft making, something I enjoy very much. I am fairly pleased with the results of this experiment, but I thing next time I will be a little less color crazy with the thread and keep to two basic colors; a light thread for dark fabrics and a dark thread for the light fabrics. I feel I overdid it with the colors…it’s really bugging me, and I am this close to unraveling the entire thing and starting over. But I think I will just move onto the next project, that’s probably a smarter idea. Click on image for larger version.

IF: Visitors

by renac

It has been a long while since I have posted for Illustration Friday. I’ve been busy with work and such, but I wanted to get back in the IF routine. This piece, titled Scuba-Man Meets the Sad Octopus is my first painting completed in a long, long, loooooong while, so I am giving myself a big ole pat on the back Created using watercolor and archival ink on paper. In other unrelated news, today is my birthday. So happy birthday to myself… and thanks to all my fancy friends and family who sent me their good wishes. You’ze all made my day
